The Nicaraguan córdoba (NIO) is the national currency, and US dollars are widely accepted, so both circulate together; Costa Rican colones and Honduran lempiras are traded near the borders. Managua has the most offers, followed by León, Granada, Masaya and Estelí.
Banks exchange currency in their branches, and licensed street changers (coyotes) work in busy commercial areas. In Nicaragua, listings let you exchange US dollars for Nicaraguan córdobas directly with another person, in cash or by transfer.
