The Afghan afghani (AFN) is the national currency, while US dollars, Pakistani rupees and Iranian rials circulate widely, especially near the borders. Most offers are in Kabul, followed by Herat, Kandahar, Mazar-i-Sharif and Kunduz.
Much of the exchange happens at traditional money markets, such as Sarai Shahzada in Kabul, where money changers also arrange hawala transfers. Listings let you agree on a cash exchange or a transfer directly with another person.
