Indicative rates, not an offer. Averaged from real buy and sell prices.
Benin uses the West African CFA franc (XOF), which is pegged to the euro, so euro rates are stable and predictable, while the Nigerian naira and Ghanaian cedi are in demand because of cross-border trade. Cotonou has the most offers, followed by Porto-Novo, Abomey-Calavi and Parakou.
Besides banks and bureaus in Cotonou, much of the naira trade happens around Dantokpa, one of West Africa’s largest markets. In Benin, listings let you exchange US dollars for West African CFA francs directly with another person, in cash or by transfer.
