Indonesia — Currency exchange map

The Indonesian rupiah (IDR) is the national currency; US dollars, Singapore dollars, euros and Australian dollars are the most exchanged. Jakarta has the most offers, followed by Bali, Surabaya, Medan and Yogyakarta.
Authorised money changers (look for the official licence sign) are common in Bali and Jakarta and usually beat bank rates, while crisp, recent US dollar notes get the best rate. In Indonesia, listings let you exchange US dollars for Indonesian rupiah directly with another person, in cash or by transfer.
