The Tunisian dinar (TND) is a closed currency that cannot be freely taken out of the country, so visitors exchange on arrival and should keep their receipts to change dinars back; euros are the most exchanged foreign currency, followed by US dollars, and Algerian and Libyan dinars are traded near the borders. Tunis has the most offers, followed by Sfax, Sousse, Hammamet and Djerba.
Banks and licensed bureaux de change operate in city centres, hotels and at the airports. In Tunisia, listings let you exchange US dollars for Tunisian dinars directly with another person, in cash or by transfer.
