The Somali shilling (SOS) is the national currency, but US dollars dominate everyday life and mobile money in dollars is used for most payments. UAE dirhams, Saudi riyals and Kenyan shillings are also traded. Mogadishu has the most offers, followed by Hargeisa, Bosaso, Kismayo and Garowe.
Money transfer companies (hawala) and mobile money services such as EVC Plus handle most transfers. In Somalia, listings are a way to swap Somali shillings and US dollars directly with another person.
